Where do your musky fishing charters take place?
Capital Musky primarily guides musky fishing trips on the Ottawa River, with additional early-season opportunities on the Rideau River and other surrounding water bodies. Launch locations—including Rockland, ON and other lower Ottawa River access points—are selected shortly before your trip based on weather, water conditions, and guest convenience to maximize success.
Do I need prior musky fishing experience?
No experience is required. Capital Musky welcomes beginners, intermediate anglers, and experienced musky fishermen. Trips are fully customized, and your guide provides hands-on instruction covering casting, lure selection, boat positioning, and musky-specific techniques.
What is included with a guided musky fishing trip?
All guided trips include professional guiding, top-quality Shimano rods and reels, musky-specific tackle, safety equipment, and personalized instruction. You are welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer.
How many people can fish on a musky charter?
Musky fishing trips can accommodate up to four people, though two to three anglers is ideal, especially for those new to musky fishing. Group size recommendations are based on safety, comfort, and maximizing fishing opportunities.
Do you practice catch and release musky fishing?
Yes. Capital Musky follows a strict catch-and-release policy for musky fishing. Proper handling, netting, and release techniques are taught and used on every trip to ensure the health and long-term sustainability of Ontario’s musky populations.
What should I bring on my musky fishing trip?
Guests should bring weather-appropriate clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, food and drinks, and any personal medications. Polarized sunglasses and rain gear are highly recommended. A detailed checklist will be provided after booking.
Do you offer family-friendly or multi-species fishing trips?
Yes. In addition to dedicated musky charters, Capital Musky offers family-friendly and multi-species fishing tripstargeting species such as bass and pike. These trips are ideal for introducing new anglers and younger participants to fishing.
Where should I stay when booking an Ottawa River musky trip?
Popular accommodation options include hotels in Rockland and Orleans, as well as Airbnbs throughout East Ottawa and surrounding communities. Higher-end lodging is available at Fairmont Le Château Montebello on the Quebec side of the river, with dock pickup available for full-day trips.
Are your boats licensed and insured?
Yes. Capital Musky operates a commercially registered and insured 20-foot Lund Impact. Your guide holds SVOP certification, Marine Emergency Duties, Marine Basic First Aid, and a Radio Operator’s Certificate to ensure a safe and professional experience.
